The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has called for greater investment in Nigeria’s young population, stressing that their development is critical to the nation’s future.
In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi in commemoration of the 2025 International Youth Day on Tuesday, Speaker Abbas noted that young people make up the majority of Nigeria’s population, and as such, government at all levels must prioritise policies and programmes that address their needs and aspirations.
He urged increased access to quality and affordable education, alongside robust skill acquisition and empowerment initiatives, describing such measures as vital investments in national growth.
The Speaker also called on public and private sector stakeholders to channel more resources into talent discovery, entrepreneurship, and sports development, noting that these avenues can keep young Nigerians engaged and away from crime and other social vices.
While appealing to young citizens to remain patriotic, law-abiding, and morally upright, Abbas tasked religious and cultural institutions with instilling virtues such as hard work, discipline, and dedication among the youth.
“Empowering our young people is not just a moral responsibility, it is a strategic necessity for Nigeria’s progress,” he said, wishing all Nigerian youth a happy International Youth Day celebration.
