President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, has appointed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., GCON, as chairman of a presidential committee set up to reconcile factions within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bauchi State.
Other members of the committee are Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State; former House Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara; Senior Special Assistant to the President on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Abdullahi Abubakar Gumel; Senior Special Assistant to the President (Political), Alhaji Ibrahim Masari; and Alhaji Usman Abubakar Gotomo. The Chief of Staff to the Speaker, Prof. Jake Dan-Azumi, serves as secretary.
According to a statement signed by the Speaker’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the high-powered panel is mandated to address and resolve the protracted internal disputes that have dogged the party’s state chapter since the 2015 primaries.
Speaker Abbas described the president’s intervention as crucial to ending the long-standing impasse, urging members of the committee to work with fairness, integrity, and urgency to meet the one-month deadline ahead of the APC congresses.
As part of its assignment, the committee held a meeting with key Bauchi APC stakeholders on July 31 at the Yobe State Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro.
The session was chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, who stood in for Speaker Abbas.Those in attendance included former Bauchi State governors Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar, SAN, and Alhaji Isa Yuguda; Minister of Health, Mohammed Ali Pate; serving and former lawmakers; as well as other prominent political figures from the state.
The reconciliation panel is expected to submit its report to President Tinubu in the coming weeks for further action.
