Speaker Abbas Celebrates Abdulsalami Abubakar at 84, Hails Democratic Legacy

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has congratulated former Head of State, Abdulsalami Abubakar, on his 84th birthday, describing him as a patriot whose leadership paved the way for Nigeria’s uninterrupted democratic journey.

In a statement issued on Sunday in Abuja by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Speaker Abbas praised General Abdulsalami for overseeing the transition from military rule to democratic governance in 1999.

The Speaker recalled that following the death of former military ruler, Sani Abacha, in June 1998, Abdulsalami assumed office and immediately initiated a transition process that culminated in the return to civilian rule, laying the foundation for Nigeria’s 27 years of uninterrupted democracy.

Speaker Abbas also commended the former Head of State’s continued service to the nation after leaving office, noting that he has remained a respected statesman and a symbol of patriotism.

He prayed for continued good health, long life, and divine protection for General Abdulsalami as he celebrates his 84th birthday.

The statement was signed by Musa Abdullahi Krishi, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
