An emotional story shared online has sparked fresh debate after a Nigerian based overseas claimed that a fellow countryman was deported from Europe shortly after returning a lost wallet to the Police.
According to the account, the incident happened last week when the man found a wallet on the ground containing identification cards and about 4,500 Euros. Believing he was doing the right thing, he reportedly took the wallet to a nearby Police station and explained that he did not know the owner but wanted it returned.
The narrator said the Police initially praised the gesture and began documenting the case, recording the amount of money found and taking details about the person who brought it in. However, the situation allegedly took a sudden turn when officers asked the man to present his identification and residency documents.
It was at that point, the story claims, that the man could not produce valid papers because he was living in the country illegally. The tone reportedly changed immediately, and he was arrested on the spot. By the next day, arrangements were said to have been made for his deportation, and he was put on a flight back to Nigeria.
The narrator described the outcome as heartbreaking, suggesting the man may have believed his honesty would be met with understanding or assistance. Instead, the act of returning the wallet exposed his undocumented status, leading to his removal from the country. He repeatedly described the experience as sad and asked viewers what lesson could be drawn from it.
The story has drawn mixed reactions online, with users split between sympathy for the man and support for the enforcement of immigration laws.
@georgenw_ dismissed the claim, writing, “Recycled sh*t story”.
@Ik_justine2077 reacted sharply: “Japa and have sense”.
@Spicytosine took a measured stance, saying, “The person that returned the wallet did a good job, and the official did a good job by sending him out for not being legal. The both party are right and law abiding”.
@NSENGIY38144450 pointed to the core issue: “As he was residing there illeg@lly”.
@Samnacks_201 reflected on the moral dilemma, noting, “Integrity costs some people everything. A very tough lesson in a very cold world.”
@KrisOmarkris101 responded simply: “Ah!”
As the discussion continues, the story has reignited conversations about migration, legality and the harsh realities undocumented migrants can face, even when trying to do the right thing.
