The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, on Wednesday received the Chinese Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Yu Dunhai, to review bilateral relations and strengthen strategic cooperation between both countries.
A statement by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said the meeting focused on advancing ongoing partnerships and exchanging views on regional and global developments.
It said the Chinese envoy commended Nigeria’s leadership role in West Africa and aligned with the Minister’s concerns on the mischaracterisation of regional crises, reaffirming China’s support for Nigeria’s security, stability and sovereignty.
According to the statement, both sides discussed expanded areas of cooperation, including industrialisation, exploration and processing of rare earth and critical minerals, technology transfer, migration, and capacity-building.
It added that the parties also examined China’s proposed “process solutions,” prospective investments, and opportunities in the energy, manufacturing and economic transformation sectors.
The statement said Tuggar and Dunhai agreed that ongoing reviews of bilateral agreements were key to unlocking new areas of collaboration and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening Nigeria–China relations for mutual benefit.
