The NANS Stakeholders Forum has congratulated newly elected President of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Akinteye Babatunde Afeez, following his victory in the association’s 2026 national convention.
In a statement signed by the Convener of the forum, Osabinu Olufemi, the stakeholders described Babtee’s emergence as a “historic and overwhelming victory” that reflects the confidence Nigerian students have in his leadership capacity and experience.
According to the forum, Babtee secured 349 votes out of 372 accredited voters in the election, a result it said demonstrated his popularity, competence, credibility and years of commitment to the student movement.
The group, which comprises former NANS Presidents, former Senate Presidents, former Vice Presidents, former Joint Campus Committee leaders and other critical stakeholders, said it endorsed Babtee before the convention based on his leadership qualities and administrative experience.
The stakeholders noted that the outcome of the election justified their confidence in the new NANS President, adding that Nigerian students had clearly chosen “tested and visionary leadership.”
They described Babtee’s emergence as “a victory for experience over experimentation, capacity over propaganda, and service over selfish ambition.”
The forum highlighted his contributions to the student movement, noting that he previously served as Chairman of the Joint Campus Committee (JCC), Ondo Axis, Vice President of NANS and Senate President of the association.
The stakeholders also commended delegates at the convention for what they described as their maturity and resolve in resisting “distractions, blackmail and misinformation” during the electoral process.
While expressing confidence in Babtee’s ability to reposition the student body, the forum urged him to remain committed to the ideals of NANS, protect the interests of Nigerian students and promote unity within the organisation.
“Once again, congratulations to Comrade Akinteye Babatunde Afeez (Babtee) on this historic and overwhelming victory,” the statement added.
