Hon. Julius Pondi has emerged as the APC candidate for Burutu Federal Constituency House of Representatives seat after Chief Thompson Fuoye stepped down from the race in support of the incumbent lawmaker ahead of the forthcoming general election.
Fuoye announced his decision during a meeting with supporters on Saturday, saying the move was made in respect for the leadership of the party and the directive of the state governor.
He said although the decision was difficult, he chose to obey the party leadership after consultations with elders, supporters and members of his campaign team.
“The party is supreme and the governor is the leader of the party. We have decided to obey the directive for the unity and progress of the APC,” he said.
Fuoye, however, maintained that his supporters were fully prepared for the primary election and believed strongly in their chances of victory.
He thanked party members, youths, women and leaders across Burutu Federal Constituency for what he described as their “organic and undiluted support” throughout his aspiration.
The aspirant urged all his supporters to remain calm and work for the success of Pondi and the APC in the forthcoming general elections.
He also congratulated Pondi on emerging as the APC flag bearer for the constituency and pledged continued support for the party.
Fuoye further appreciated party leaders and stakeholders who played roles in the reconciliation process, including former Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, Elder Godsday Orubebe, and other leaders of the party in the state.
