WAFCON: ‘Proud’ Tinubu Hails Super Falcons

President Bola Tinubu has congratulated Nigeria’s Super Falcons after their impressive 2–1 victory over South Africa in the semi-final of the ongoing 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).

The Tuesday night clash, which saw the Nigerian ladies dig deep to edge out their South African rivals, was hailed by the President as “nothing short of superlative.”

In a statement released shortly after the final whistle, Tinubu praised the team’s fighting spirit and composure, encouraging them to maintain focus as they chase a record-extending 10th WAFCON title.

“Well deserved! Congratulations to our Super Falcons! Your incredible #WAFCON2024 semi‑finals victory over South Africa today was nothing short of superlative,” the President wrote.

“You have made the nation proud. Keep soaring. Don’t stop until you bring the trophy home. Go for our 10th title.”

Tinubu added that Nigerians across the globe are united in their support as the Super Falcons prepare for Saturday’s final, where they will take on either hosts Morocco or Ghana.

“We are waiting to receive the cup,” he said.

The Super Falcons are already the most successful women’s national team in Africa, with nine WAFCON titles to their name. Their last championship win came in 2018.

They narrowly missed out in the 2022 edition, losing in the semi-finals to Morocco.

This year, however, the team looks determined to reclaim their crown, and fans across the country and in the diaspora are buzzing with excitement over the latest win.
