The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D., has assured Nigerians that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, working closely with the 10th National Assembly, is determined to end insecurity and chart a path for economic prosperity.
Abbas gave the assurance on Sunday in Abuja at An Evening with 004, an interactive session between the Speaker and Nigerian youths, organised by the Office of the National Youth Leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The event was part of activities marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary.
The Speaker, who was honoured with the APC Youth Wing’s ‘Legislator of the Year (National Category)’ award at the event, described President Tinubu as his foremost role model, citing his unmatched ability to sustain relationships and nurture leaders across decades.
“There’s no country in the world that can achieve meaningful progress without adequate security,” Abbas said. “The President and the National Assembly have worked hard to put non-kinetic measures in place to improve security. Within the next two to four years, God willing, we will no longer be talking about insecurity.”
On the economy, Abbas said Nigeria’s budgetary challenges stem largely from limited revenue, but he expressed optimism that Tinubu’s ongoing tax reforms would “substantially increase the revenue profile of Nigeria several-fold.”
He noted that this would allow the government to adequately fund critical sectors such as education and healthcare.Abbas, accompanied by his wife, Hajia Fatima Abbas Tajudeen, and their children, also fielded questions from the youths on governance, inclusivity, and national development.
He urged young Nigerians to embrace honesty and transparency, stressing that integrity attracts public trust and long-term success.Recounting his legislative journey, the Speaker highlighted his record of having 22 bills signed into law under the last Assembly, describing it as his proudest achievement.
He also reiterated his support for gender equality bills under consideration in the ongoing constitutional review, pledging to back women’s full participation in politics and governance.
The APC youths, led by National Youth Leader Dayo Israel, praised Abbas for his “exemplary leadership, visionary stewardship, and outstanding legislative impact.” They also presented him with a head bust in recognition of his contributions.
In a personal tribute, Hajia Fatima described her husband as “an extraordinary man; very kind and very honest,” while advising young women to embrace prayer, patience, and mutual support in marriage.
