Stranded In London, Funke Akindele Slams Air Peace (Video)

Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has publicly criticized Air Peace over the prolonged delay and poor handling of passengers stranded at London’s Gatwick Airport, where travellers reportedly waited for hours without luggage, accommodation, or clear communication.

Akindele, in a series of posts shared on her X handle on Friday, described the experience as frustrating and unacceptable, noting that passengers—including elderly travellers—had been left in limbo since early morning.

According to her, the disruption began around 6:30am, with passengers initially informed that a bird strike was responsible for the delay. She, however, said the situation worsened as hours passed without any meaningful update or assistance.

“Air Peace, this is unacceptable. Passengers (including elderly people) have been stranded since 6:30am at London Gatwick Airport with no proper communication,” she wrote.

The filmmaker added that travellers were later informed that hotel accommodation would be provided, but said that even after several hours, passengers remained stuck at the baggage claim area without access to their luggage or the promised arrangements.

She also highlighted the hardship faced by elderly passengers and families, stressing that many were exhausted, hungry, and left without basic support.

In a follow-up post accompanied by a video from the airport, Akindele said the situation had still not improved after several hours of waiting.

“Air Peace, what is going on? Since 7am at London Gatwick Airport and it’s almost 4pm — no bags, no hotel, no proper updates,” she wrote. “Passengers are stranded. People are tired and hungry. Release the luggage and take care of your passengers NOW.”

Responding to her initial complaint, Air Peace expressed regret over the disruption, explaining that the delay was caused by circumstances beyond its control, including operational challenges.

The airline said, “Such actions are never intentional as we prioritise safety and operational efficiency, and while we strive for on-time departures, certain factors beyond our control can sometimes cause delays.”

It further assured that efforts were underway to support affected passengers and called for patience as the situation was being addressed.

As of the time of this report, there was no confirmation that passengers had received their luggage or that accommodation arrangements had been fully completed.
