Aftermath of Paris 2024 Olympics failure, Sports Minister, Senator John Owen Enoh may face his biggest disappointment as he envisaged appointing the would-be trusted leaders he dreams that could pilot the affairs of sports to stardom, reports MJConcept TV News.
This is coming in the aftermath of Team Nigeria’s underwhelming showing at the 2024 Paris Olympics, where the nation failed to secure any medals even after boasting to surpass Atlanta ’96 performance.
MJ Concept TV News reports that John Enoh is considering rigorous examination of the constitutions governing Nigeria’s sporting federations in preparation for the imminent elections on arrival from his dismal Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Apparently lamenting Team Nigeria’s failure despite what he described as ‘the Ministry’s comprehensive preparations and financial backing provided to the athletes’, the results did not meet Ministry’s expectations.
According to a statement by Mrs. Kehinde Ajayi, Director Press and Public Relations perused by MJConcept TV News, Senator John Enoh has promised that: “Upon our return home, it is imperative that we take measures to avert a recurrence of the disappointing outcome in Paris. If this necessitates reevaluating the electoral processes for appointing leaders of our sporting federations, then so be it”.
“I recognize that the federation elections are on the horizon, presenting a prime opportunity to select visionary individuals to helm the various sports.”
Aware of the intricate nature of these elections, the Minister stated that, “I understand that the sports federation elections in Nigeria pose unique challenges, often more arduous than our national elections. This raises the question of why such complexity exists.
As the Minister, it is my duty to oversee elections that propel only the most qualified individuals into leadership roles in the various federations. I am also cognizant that certain federations may need to revise their constitutions to ensure greater inclusivity.”
MJConcept TV News reports that the push for reform is aimed at bolstering leadership quality and efficiency within Nigeria’s sports federations, ultimately striving for improved international performance.
