The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, PhD, GCON, has condemned the spate of violent attacks recorded in several states over the weekend, which left dozens dead, injured, and others abducted.
In a statement issued on Monday by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker lamented the killings in Kaduna, Borno, Katsina, Plateau, Kwara and other states, describing them as “gruesome and unfortunate.”
Abbas urged security agencies to intensify efforts against terrorists, bandits, and other criminal elements threatening the country’s peace, warning that unchecked insecurity could destabilize Nigeria’s socio-economic progress.
He reminded the military and intelligence agencies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s standing directive to decisively confront banditry and terrorism, stressing the urgency of translating orders into results.
Reports from affected states indicated that at least seven people were killed and 11 others injured during a bandit attack on Wake community in Agunu Ward of Kachia Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Sunday.
An unspecified number of residents were also abducted.Similarly, suspected Boko Haram insurgents attacked Darajamal community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday night, killing soldiers and civilians.
In Katsina, bandits stormed Magajin Wando village in Dandume Local Government Area, killing seven people, while another attack in Shagbe community, Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, claimed two lives and led to the abduction of eight persons.In Plateau State, gunmen invaded a mining site in Wang community, Bokkos Local Government Area, killing at least six miners on Saturday night.
The Speaker commiserated with the victims’ families, affected communities, and state governments, while urging security forces to ensure the safe rescue of abductees and the prosecution of perpetrators.
