Reps Approve Mr. President’s Request to Refund N24bn to Nasarawa, Kebbi States for Airport Takeover

The House of Representatives has approved the reimbursement of ₦9.54 billion to Nasarawa State and ₦15.14 Billion to Kebbi State, respectively, for the Federal takeover of newly constructed cargo facilities.

The lower Legislative Chamber endorsed the President’s request during plenary on Thursday, after Lanre Okunlola, Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Loans and Debts Management, presented a report

Hon. Lanre Okunlola stated that the report is as a result of the request of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as a result of the taking over of the Airports in Nasarawa and Kebbi state.

The Committee he stated examined the Airports and was satisfied at the quality of work done and hence made its recommendations based on this.

“The House of Representatives may wish to note that by the provisions of item three of the second schedule of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999, as amended, aviation, including airports, safety of aircraft and carriage of passengers and goods by air, fall under the exclusive legislative list,” the President said.

Hon. Lanre Okunlola urged the house to consider and grant concurrent approval for the establishment of the promissory notes program in favour of Kebbi and Nasarawa States Governments.

It will be recorded that, In May, Tinubu sought the National Assembly’s nod to issue promissory notes of N 15,137,336,095 for Kebbi and N9,542,651,786 for Nasarawa for the construction of Ahmadu Bello International Airport and Lafia Cargo Airport respectively.

Tinubu had said the reimbursement would enable the Federal Government to take over the two airports.

The House reverted to plenary and adopted the report of the Committee of Supply following a motion by Hon. Julius Ihonbvere and seconded by Hon. Ali Isa.

Recommendations voted on approved.
