Former Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi has attracted mixed reactions on social media after a video showing him exercising on a treadmill surfaced online.
In the footage circulating on X, the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate was seen walking on the exercise machine while holding a small towel, which he occasionally used to wipe his hands.
The video drew comments from Nigerians, with some praising his physical activity and others questioning the political significance of the footage.
Although the clip has gained attention, its original recording date has not been independently established.
Some social media users described the former Anambra State governor as physically active, while others encouraged him to maintain his exercise routine.
Reacting to the footage, @iamjayjayokocha wrote, “Nigeria needs a lively man like Obi for president not the current”
Another user, @Offobyk, commented, “Bigger task ahead 💪”
@Sewanugaan described the politician as “Man of the people”
Similarly, @LydiabayorSK wrote, “The man is too active for the job 😚”
Offering a different opinion, @tedcohenny stated, “He should continue to do the morning workout. It is very nice. But that presidency, he will never make it.”
@Dynasty_Cut reflected on Obi’s age, writing, “Omo time waits for no one i still remember obi then i cant believe he is over 60 now 🥲”
Another commenter, @01_spatherapist, simply wrote, “Stay healthy for us”
@D8te_band dismissed the attention surrounding the footage, describing Obi as “Social media president”
Obi, who contested the 2023 presidential election, remains a prominent figure in Nigeria’s opposition politics ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The former governor has frequently spoken about leadership, public service and the responsibilities of elected officials, although there is no verified statement establishing that he specifically promised to maintain a gym routine if elected president.
The circulating video does not establish when or where the exercise session took place.
