The acting Chief of Army Staff, Maj. Gen. Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede, will assume his official duties on Friday, November 1, according to the Defence Headquarters, Abuja.
Oluyede was appointed by President Bola Tinubu on Wednesday pending the return of the indisposed substantive Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja.
In a notice on Thursday signed by Group Captain Chris Erondu on behalf of the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, it was stated that the handover ceremony would be held at the Defence Headquarters conference room at 10 am.
The DHQ said, “The formal taking over ceremony of the newly appointed acting Chief of Army Staff, Major General Olufemi Oluyede is scheduled for tomorrow as follows: Date: 1 November 2024; Time: 10000hrs; Venue: DHQ Conference Room, Abuja.”
MJConcept TV News had reported that President Bola Tinubu appointed Major General Olufemi Olatubosun Oluyede as the acting Chief of Army Staff (COAS), to stand in for the ailing substantive Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja.
Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser Information and Strategy to President Tinubu had disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.
Before this new role, Oluyede, 56, served as the 56th Commander of the elite Infantry Corps of the Nigerian Army, based in Jaji, Kaduna.
Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1992, Oluyede attained the rank of Major-General in September 2020.
Throughout his career, he has held various commands, including roles as Platoon Commander and adjutant at 65 Battalion, Company Commander at 177 Guards Battalion, and Staff Officer Guards Brigade.
