Nigeria Among Top Five Countries With Heaviest Malaria Burden In 2023 – WHO

Nigeria is ranked among the top five countries with the highest malaria burden in 2023, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Despite efforts to reduce malaria transmission, Nigeria continues to be severely affected by the disease, which remains a leading cause of illness and death across the country, Bloomberg reports.

WHO’s findings emphasize the persistence of malaria as a major public health threat in Nigeria, particularly in areas with limited access to healthcare services.

The disease continues to place immense pressure on the country’s healthcare system, with millions of cases reported annually, impacting the overall well-being of the population, especially young children and pregnant women.

The report calls for intensified efforts, including improved access to treatment and prevention methods such as insecticide-treated nets and indoor spraying.

Global collaboration is seen as crucial to tackling the malaria crisis, particularly in high-burden countries like Nigeria, where more comprehensive interventions are urgently needed.
