Questions on the lips of many a patients Wednesday was if belonging to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) was a sin. A visit to the unit at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada was a conviction that choosing the option was the biggest mistake; especially amongst the Civil Servants.
Some of the patients waited endlessly on the queue…on the First floor, NHIS building, University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, Gwagwalada on Wednesday.
Patients with their accompanying relatives on Wednesday rained curses on the NHIS and staff; especially those at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital Gwagwalada for the frustrations received instead of services to enable them to see their doctors.
MJConcept TV News reports that some patients and accompanying relatives from as far as Nasarawa state and some of the distant Satellite Towns such as Orozo and Kubwa were disappointed as they returned to their respective homes without being attended to.
There, patients wanting to see doctors for their various issues were frustrated on the premise that there’s no network to access the patients’ profiles to generate code to process their invoices; the document required to see the doctors.
Staffers of the unit suddenly turned themselves into demigods as they select whom amongst the patients to assist in the generation of code.
Code, as explained, is provided by the service providers before invoices are generated which enables the patients to be attended to by the doctors.
At the invoice unit, which also serve as the ICT; the staffers there clearly inform the patients that, “without the code, invoice cannot be generated.”
It was frustration all through as some patients bared their minds to remain there until they are attended to by the arrogant but opportunist NHIS staff attend to their needs.
