Former Deputy Senate President, H.E. Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege has resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), days after losing the Party’s Delta Central Senatorial District primaries ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
In a resignation letter dated May 22, 2026, and addressed to the APC Ward Chairman in Orogun Ward 2, Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State, Omo-Agege announced that his decision takes “immediate effect.”
The Senator, who represented Delta Central and served as Deputy President of the 9th Senate between 2019 and 2023, said recent developments within the APC in Delta State forced him to reconsider his continued membership of the Party.
“After reviewing recent developments in the Party in Delta State and consulting with my associates and supporters, it is clear my political objectives and those of my constituents are better served outside the APC,” the letter read.
“I will not remain a sitting duck in a Party where I cannot advance the interests of Delta Central, Delta State and Nigeria.”
Omo-Agege thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve in the leadership of the National Assembly but stated that he would now pursue his political ambitions outside the Party.
“I thank the Party for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President of the 9th Senate. I wish the APC well and request that my name be removed from all membership records, registers, and communication lists,” he stated.
He added, “My focus remains on delivering development and effective representation for Delta Central, Delta State, and Nigeria. I will pursue these goals outside the APC.”
His exit from the APC comes amid growing internal disputes and power struggles within the Party in Delta State following the controversial Senatorial primary contests.
Omo-Agege lost his seat in the Party’s Primary election after scoring 3,643 votes against the incumbent Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District, Ede Dafinone, who polled 116,252 votes to emerge winner.
According to the official results announced by the APC National Assembly Primary Committee, Senator Dafinone polled an overwhelming 116,252 votes to defeat Omo-Agege, who secured 3,643 votes.
The result marked a major political victory for Dafinone and signals strong grassroots support for his re-election bid ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
MJConcept TV News reliably gathered that, following his defeat, the former Deputy Senate President has decided to leave the APC and is reportedly planning to join the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) in a bid to pursue his Senatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 General Elections.
“As I talk to you, all his foot soldiers, supporters and so many others who believe in his ambition have been sent to join the NDC ahead of his defection to the Party to contest the Senatorial election there having been denied the ticket in the APC,” one of his political associates said.
