Female INEC Boss Steps In As Mahmood Yakubu Exits

May Agbamuche has officially assumed duties as the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) following the exit of Professor Mahmood Yakubu.

The announcement was made by Prof. Yakubu on Tuesday during a meeting with Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) at the Commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

Agbamuche, who has been part of the Commission for years, now takes over in an interim capacity, making her the longest-serving National Commissioner currently at INEC.

In his farewell remarks, the outgoing chairman called on all directors and RECs to give Agbamuche their full cooperation as she leads the commission pending the appointment of a new substantive chairman.

Yakubu’s handover marks the beginning of a new phase for INEC’s leadership as preparations for upcoming elections continue across the country.
