Drama As Sowore Rejects Black Maria, Forces DSS To Use Hilux After Prison Remand (Video)

There was drama at the Federal High Court in Abuja on Monday after activist and AAC Presidential candidate Omoyele Sowore refused to enter a Black Maria following an order to remand him in prison.

Justice Mohammed Umar had just directed that Sowore be held at Kuje Correctional Centre until Wednesday, June 24. But when operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) moved to put him in the secure detention vehicle, Sowore pushed back.

“You can’t force me into that Black Maria,” he told the operatives, insisting instead on a regular vehicle.

After a tense standoff, the security officials backed down and drove him to Kuje in a Toyota Hilux.

The scene outside Court capped a chaotic day inside. Heavily armed DSS operatives had earlier marched Sowore out of the Courtroom in what witnesses described as a forceful manner.

The remand order came after the judge revoked Sowore’s bail over one missed Court appearance. His lawyers explained that he was absent because he had to meet with his new lead counsel, Olumide-Fusika, SAN, for case consultations.

Sowore is standing trial for cyberstalking and criminal defamation. The charges were filed after he called President Bola Tinubu a criminal in a social media post dated August 2025.
