Babangida’s Son Tops List As Tinubu Makes New Appointments

President Bola Tinubu has made new appointments across key Federal agencies, naming Mohammed Babangida, son of former military President Ibrahim Babangida, as the new Chairman of the Bank of Agriculture.

This announcement was made in a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on Friday, July 18, 2025.

According to Onanuga, the appointments also include other individuals who will serve as either chairmen or heads of different Government agencies.

Muhammad Babangida, who is 53 years old, studied Business Administration at the European University in Montreux, Switzerland. He also holds a Master’s degree in Public Relations and Business Communication. In addition, he completed the Executive Program on Corporate Governance at Harvard Business School in 2002.

Other newly appointed officials include:

Lydia Kalat Musa from Kaduna State, appointed as Chairman of the Oil and Gas Free Zone Authority (OGFZA).

Jamilu Wada Aliyu from Kano State, appointed as Chairman of the National Educational Research and Development Council (NERDC).

Yahuza Ado Inuwa, also from Kano, named Chairman of the Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON).

Sanusi Musa (SAN) from Kano, appointed Chairman of the Institute of Peace and Conflict Resolution (IPCR).

Prof. Al-Mustapha Alhaji Aliyu from Sokoto, named Director-General of the Directorate of Technical Cooperation in Africa (DTCA).

Sanusi Garba Rikiji from Zamfara, appointed as Director-General of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations (NOTN).

Tomi Somefun from Oyo State, appointed as Managing Director of the National Hydro-Electric Power Areas Development Commission (HYPPADEC).

Dr Abdulmumini Mohammed Aminu-Zaria from Kaduna State, appointed Executive Director of the Nigerian Integrated Water Resources Management Commission (NIWRMC).

These appointments reflect the administration’s continuing effort to fill strategic roles with individuals believed to have the expertise and background to drive institutional goals.
