Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede

The Acting Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged to sustain the fight against insurgency to bring lasting peace to the country if confirmed in a substantive position.

Lieutenant General Oluyede made the pledge while he appeared before the House of Representatives Joint Committee on Defence and Army at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja on Wednesday.

Oluyede said that the fight against insurgency, banditry, and all other criminal elements is not for the military alone but requires concerted effort of all Nigerians

He also emphasized the need for strong bilateral and multilateral alliances with neighbouring countries, as well as deep collaboration and joint efforts by the services and other security agencies to put insecurity at bay in Nigeria.

He, however, mentioned that more is still needed to be done to achieve sustainable peace across all regions of the country.
