The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, has urged Nigerians not to lose hope in the country, saying Nigeria is gradually maturing politically, socially and economically.
Abbas made the call in his Independence Day message to Nigerians as the country marks its 66th anniversary of independence on Thursday.
The Speaker said democracy had continued to thrive in Nigeria, describing patriotism, peace and unity as essential ingredients for national development.
He urged Nigerians to collectively contribute to the growth and prosperity of the country, stressing that nation-building required the commitment of citizens irrespective of political affiliations, ethnic or religious backgrounds.
Abbas also called for continued prayers and support for the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, while emphasising that nationhood transcends partisan politics and other divisions.
He urged Nigerians to embrace a national reorientation and renewed commitment to the country’s advancement.
The Speaker wished Nigerians a peaceful and happy Independence Day celebration.
