Supreme Court Verdict: INEC Officially Recognizes David Mark As ADC National Chairman

Nigeria’s electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), has officially updated its records to recognize former Senate President, David Mark, as the National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), following a decisive ruling by the Supreme Court.

In the updated register published late Thursday night, INEC also listed former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, as the Party’s National Secretary, effectively settling a leadership tussle that had plagued the opposition party.

The development comes on the heels of the Apex Court’s judgment, which overturned an earlier “status quo ante bellum” order that had frozen the ADC leadership structure on Thursday.

The Supreme Court subsequently directed that all related matters be returned to the Federal High Court for further proceedings.

Meanwhile, on INEC’s website, it confirmed the new leadership lineup, with Dr. Mani Ahmad named as National Treasurer, Akibu Dalhatu as National Financial Secretary, and Prof. Oserheimen Osunbor serving as National Legal Adviser.

MJConcept TV News previously reported that the Supreme Court of Nigeria had ruled in favour of the Mark-led faction of the ADC in the Party’s ongoing leadership crisis ahead of the 2027 general elections.

In its decision, the Apex Court also emphasized that Nigeria must not operate as a one-party state.

The Apex Court, acting in line with timelines set by INEC for electoral preparations, had earlier ordered an accelerated hearing of leadership disputes affecting several political parties, including the ADCPeoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP).
