Member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Amobi Ogah, has raised unanswered question after questioning the trend of top Nigerian officials seeking medical treatment outside the country, describing it as a shameful reflection of the nation’s broken healthcare system.
Speaking on Channels Sunday Politics with Seun Okinbaloye, Ogah backed a proposed Bill aimed at prohibiting public and civil servants from patronizing private hospitals and schools both locally and abroad, arguing that Nigeria will not progress unless its public institutions are fixed.
“A few weeks ago, our former President’s body was flown into the country,” Ogah said, referencing the recent repatriation of the late President Buhari’s body for burial. “Is it not a shame that at each point in time, our big men travel outside for medical services?”
The Lawmaker, who represents Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency of Abia State, insisted that until Nigeria’s leaders are compelled to fix the educational and health sector, the country will remain stagnant.

His remarks come amid growing public frustration over the state of public hospitals and schools, many of which are underfunded, poorly staffed, or lacking basic infrastructure while public officials often opt for expensive treatments and education abroad.
