Reps Demands Halt to Issuance of Private Airstrip, Cite National Security Concerns

The House of Representatives has called on the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace to stop the issuance of airstrip licenses to private individuals and organizations.

It also called for the withdrawal of the already approved ones granted to private individuals and organizations to safeguard national security.

This follows the motion of urgent national importance raised by Hon. Suleiman Gumu during the plenary session.

He emphasized that granting airstrip to private individuals and organizations could aid illegal importation of firearms and drugs into the country, hence heightening insecurity that is currently affecting social- economic development of the country.

Early in the plenary, Hon. Suleiman Gumi announced his defecting from Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC), attributed his departure to the ongoing internal conflicts within the PDP, undermining his ability to serve his constituents effectively.
