The Chairman of Otovwodo Motor Park, Comrade Gueke Ugbarugba, has inaugurated a monthly cash palliative scheme aimed at providing financial assistance to indigent persons, widows, physically challenged persons, the less privileged and selected youths in Otovwodo and neighbouring communities.
The initiative, described as the first of its kind in the history of the motor park, is designed to cushion the impact of the prevailing economic hardship and improve the welfare of vulnerable members of society through sustained financial support.
Speaking at the inauguration, Ugbarugba said the programme reflects his administration’s commitment to compassionate, inclusive and people-centred leadership. He explained that the scheme is not a one-off intervention but a continuous monthly programme intended to restore hope, ease economic burdens and improve the living conditions of beneficiaries.
He noted that the beneficiaries were carefully selected from within Otovwodo and surrounding communities to ensure that support reaches those most in need, adding that the initiative underscores the importance of extending the dividends of leadership beyond members of the motor park to the wider society.
Ugbarugba further explained that the monthly cash palliative programme aligns with the vision of Jaro Egbo and complements the welfare policies of the Delta State Government under Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s MORE Agenda, as well as the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. According to him, meaningful grassroots interventions by community leaders and organisations are essential to supporting government efforts to improve the standard of living of citizens.
He called on other corporate bodies, community leaders and well-meaning individuals to complement government programmes by initiating projects that directly impact vulnerable members of society, stressing that collective efforts are needed to address growing socio-economic challenges.
Stakeholders and members of the Otovwodo community commended the initiative, describing it as a landmark intervention and a new model of community-focused leadership. They said the programme demonstrates a genuine commitment to social responsibility and expressed optimism that the monthly support would provide relief to beneficiaries while inspiring similar interventions in other communities.
They also praised Ugbarugba for prioritising the welfare of the less privileged, noting that the scheme reinforces the role of grassroots leadership in promoting social inclusion, economic empowerment and sustainable community development.
