Arise News presenter, Rufai Oseni, has faulted the reaction of President Bola Tinubu’s media aide, Bayo Onanuga, to former Labour Party Presidential candidate Peter Obi’s call for the President to step down.
Obi had urged President Tinubu to follow the example of United Kingdom Prime Minister Keir Starmer and resign, citing concerns over Nigeria’s economic difficulties and security situation.
The former Anambra State Governor argued that the circumstances surrounding Starmer’s resignation reflected challenges similar to those confronting Nigerians under the current administration, suggesting that a similar decision should be considered by Tinubu.
Responding to Obi’s remarks, Onanuga dismissed the call as “puerile” and described Obi’s position as childish. He argued that events in Nigeria could not be compared with those in the United Kingdom.
The Presidential aide also maintained that President Tinubu enjoys the support of Nigerians and pointed out that Nigeria operates a fixed-term presidential system, unlike the UK’s Parliamentary model.
However, speaking on a Tuesday morning programme, Oseni criticised the Presidency’s response, referencing past actions and statements by the All Progressives Congress (APC) before it came to power in 2015.
He said, “Was the APC also childish when it called for the resignation of Goodluck Jonathan? What they said Jonathan should resign for has happened under them too.
“This was the same APC that called for a parallel Government if they didn’t win the 2015 Election. Do you know what parallel Government is? That’s anarchy.
“They didn’t only say it, they went to defend it on television. So Obi called for resignation, and they said it is puerile.”
“Was APC Childish Too?” Rufai Oseni Tackles Onanuga Over Obi’s Resignation Call.
Rufai Oseni went hard on Bayo Onanuga and the Presidency on Arise News this morning.
