The Nigeria Police Force has officially announced the promotion of 17,952 junior Police officers across various ranks in the Force as part of efforts to improve welfare, boost morale, and reward diligence and professionalism.
A statement issued on Sunday and signed by the Force Public Relations Officer DCP Anthony Okon Placid, stated that Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has approved the mass promotion.
MJConcept TV News earlier exclusively reported that the IGP had approved the promotion of no fewer than 17,951 junior police officers across various commands and formations of the Force.
The promotion exercise, contained in an internal wireless signal dated May 20, 2026 and obtained by MJConcept TV News, revealed that 17,714 Constables were promoted to the rank of Corporal with effect from May 13, 2026.
According to the document, the promotions affected officers serving in formations including the IGP Monitoring Unit, STFPIB, TIU, SIU, Force Education Officer, POSSAP and the Force Headquarters, Abuja.
According to the police statement, the promotion exercise, which cuts across police commands and formations nationwide, includes the elevation of 165 Sergeants to Inspectors, 73 Corporals to Sergeants, and 17,714 Constables to Corporal rank.
In the statement, the Inspector-General said the exercise reflects the Force’s commitment to merit-based career progression and institutional development.
“Timely promotion remains a critical component of the Force’s human resource management strategy and a key tool for motivating officers to remain committed to the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities,” Disu said.
He added that the advancement of personnel was part of efforts to strengthen professionalism and reward dedication within the Force.
“The advancement of deserving personnel reflects the commitment of the current Police leadership to merit, career progression, and institutional development,” he stated.
IGP Disu congratulated the newly promoted officers and urged them to see their elevation as a call to higher responsibility.
“I congratulate all the newly promoted officers and charge them to see this elevation as a call to greater responsibility, professionalism, discipline, and dedication to service,” he said.
He also charged them to uphold ethical standards in the discharge of their duties.
“You are expected to uphold the core values of the Nigeria Police Force and continue to discharge your duties with integrity, respect for human rights, and commitment to the rule of law,” Disu added.
The Police leadership reiterated its commitment to rewarding excellence and strengthening institutional capacity in line with global best practices in policing.
