No fewer than 70 terrorists combatants including three notable terrorists’ commanders were eliminated by the Troops of Operation HADIN KAI in North-East of the country.
This was achieved during the troops’ conduction of clearance Operation to renowned terrorists’ stronghold and enclave known as Timbuktu Triangle.
Major General Edward Buba, Director Defence Media Operations disclosed these in a statement made available to reporters in Abuja over the weekend.
He said the operation, which started 16 January till 25 January, 2025, was aimed at dismantling the terrorists’ presence in the Timbuktu Triangle.
“Troops of Operation HADIN KAI in North-East of the country conducted clearance Operation to renowned terrorists’ stronghold and enclave known as Timbuktu Triangle,” Major General Edward Buba said.
According to him, “Troops recorded several encounters with terrorists during the course of the clearance operations, which result in over 70 terrorists combatants including 3 notable terrorists’ commanders neutralized. The terrorist commanders neutralised include and is not limited to the following: TALHA (Terrorist Special Forces Commander), Mallam UMAR (Terrorist Operations commander) and ABU YAZEED (Terrorist Brigade Commander).”
General Buba added that, during the operations, the terrorists deployed Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), Person Bourne Improvised Explosive Devices (suicide bombers) as well as Vehicle Bourne Improvised Explosive Devices (suicide bombers in explosive vehicles) to ward off troops advance and attacks. “Troops already familiar with the terrorists’ tactics, thwarted the several terrorists attempts, including shooting down the amateur drones used by the terrorists.
The Defence Headquarters publicist, however, disclosed that, “during the course of the operations, troops sadly recorded 22 killed in action casualties with several others wounded in action.”
